Readathon: Hour three update + Mini-challenge + CHARITY NEWS!!

9 Oct

How’s everyone doing out there in Readathon Land?

I’m taking a quick break to give you an update on my reading and some great news about my Charity donations, plus my hour-three mini-challenge.

First the mini-challenge for this hour is brought to you by Estella’s Revenge who is celebrating six-word memoirs/stories and asking readers to contribute their own six-word Readathon entries. So mine is:

Readathon for charity: money well spent.

And now my reading updates:

Title of book(s) read since last update: I started with Brick Lane by Monica Ali but that turned out to be too heavy and the writing too dense for my first book, so I switched to Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld. Which wasn’t even on my TBR list, but the thing I’ve learned about Readathon? Flexibility is KEY!
Number of books read since you started: Not even one yet, but I’m getting there!
Pages read and donation money accumulated since last update: 80 pages. 80 cents.

Running total of pages read since you started: 80 pages.

And now for some even better news. I told my parents that I was donating money for every page read during Readathon – and my mom graciously offered to match my donation! So that 80 cents is actually $1.60 🙂

Fabulous news! Thanks Mom!

    (Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:

Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.

By the power of every word on the page
    May your book be delightful,
    As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.

Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
    May no obstacle impede
    Your day filled with books.

For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.

Great job so far! Keep flipping those pages! And you’re so right, flexibility is the key to a good readathon. If a book isn’t keeping your interest or is bogging you down, simply pick up something else. I recently read Peeps by Scott Westerfeld and I’m definitely interested in reading his other books. Hope Behemoth goes better for you! I’ll be here (with Team Metaphor) to cheer you on!

    A fun little ditty:

There once was a girl from Leebrook
Whose nose was oft’ buried in a book
    Her hoarding got bad
    Her neighbors got mad
So the townsfolk bought her a nook

    Happy Reading!
